John 15:5 says, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
The only way a tree can thrive is if it has an established root system. If a tree does not have an established root system, it will die. This is the same in the Christian life. Our root system must be established in Christ; he is the vine. If we abide in Him, we will produce the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Without Him, we can do nothing.
What is your root system established in?
Knowing that Christ is the vine and we are the branches, I can’t help but think about the leaves, as well. When I think about how the leaves change, I notice it reflects the different seasons of life (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). The leaves change, but do you know what stays the same? The roots. The tree trunk. Though our lives are constantly changing, Christ stays the same. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8); He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Christ is constant.
Friend, I pray that your roots are established in the Creator. May the peace of knowing that though your seasons change, Christ never does, flood your heart and mind.
