Abba Father

With yesterday being Father’s Day, I tried to take some time and reflect on the Lord and what a good Father He has been to me. I immediately thought of how I have often heard God be referred to as Abba Father and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head since.

In the Greek language, Abba is literally translated to father. HELPS Word-studies says, 5 Abbá – “Father,” also used as the term of tender endearment by a beloved child – i.e. in an affectionate, dependent relationship with their father; “daddy,” “papa.” This definition for one of the many names of God gives us a whole new perspective on how our relationship with God, our Abba Father, is supposed to look.

Often times, we think that God is a distant God and He is displeased with us, but that is simply not the case. God is a very hands-on Father. We have a loving and compassionate Daddy in heaven. Our Abba Father wants us to pour our hearts and our everything out to Him; He wants the good, bad, and yes, even the ugly. Psalm 62:8 says, “Trust in him at all time; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” Daughter, son, you can crawl up in Daddy’s lap, cry out to Him, and rest in the comfort of His strength. He already knows how you feel and everything that goes on, but He wants you to tell Him; He wants to have a relationship with you. Abba Father doesn’t just need to know the big stuff, He wants to know the little stuff too. No matter how big or small, it all matters to Him. Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

Romans 8:15 says, “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry,  Abba, Father.” What a blessing to be a child of God! As soon as I accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord He adopted me as His daughter and now I can call Him my Abba Father! My Daddy!

You may not have an earthly father or you may have one, but you may not have a good relationship with him, or even a relationship with him at all, but I’m here to tell you about the Father who is a Father to the fatherless. His name is Jesus and this Jesus loves you so much that He was willing to die a cruel death on a cross so that He could know you and deliver you from the depths of hell! There is no greater love than this, friend! You can accept the Father today and live a life of abundant joy and an eternity with Him. All you have to do is believe with your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord! Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you can be saved! Do you know Him?

If  you do know Him, I encourage you today to take some time to crawl up in the Father’s lap and tell Him how much you love Him, because He first loved you!

Galatians 4:6-“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.”

1 John 3:1-“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”

Isaiah 64:8-“But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.”

1 Peter 1:3-“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”.
