Precious Promises

2 Peter 1:4 says, “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises…”

Precious promises come by precious faith. In verse 1 of 2 Peter, Peter addresses the letter to those that are recipients of “precious faith.” Have you received the Christian faith? If so, is your faith precious to you? Valued to you? Held dear to you? Those that have “obtained like precious faith…through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ” are partakers of the precious promises. These promises are “exceeding great.” These promises are freely given to us. Not only did God save us, but He has given us His word that is full of promises concerning Himself, us, life, and godliness. God, through His grace and divine power has given us ALL things that pertain to life and godliness.

He has given us the precious faith, precious promises, and all things that pertain to life and godliness, but how are those things obtained? Through the knowledge of Him. Not a casual acquaintance, an occasional prayer in time of need, or a Sunday morning kind of faith, but through a thorough knowledge. We get to throughly know Christ by diligent the studying of His word, the communication of prayer, by serving Him, and fellowshipping with other believers. In Philippians 3:10 the Apostle Paul said, “That I may know him…” Do you want to know Him? Do you have the same mission as Paul? God does not restrict Himself. You and I can have as much of Jesus as we want to. We can know Jesus as much as we want to know Him. The choice is ours! What lies beneath knowing Him is a plethora of exceeding great and precious promises. Why? Because He loves YOU!

“He tells us too, that faith is ‘precious;’ and is it not precious? For it deals with precious things, with precious promises, with precious blood, with a precious redemption, with all the preciousness of the person of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

-Charles Spurgeon

The very nature of Christ Himself is precious. He is inviting you to know Him. To know His preciousness. To know the exceeding great and precious promises that await you. To have a faith that is precious to you. This is what is being offered to you. Are you going to be a partaker?
