As I get older, the little things seem to matter more and more. Having a slow morning and enjoying a cup of coffee, taking a walk on a pretty day, making a trip to TJ Maxx and grabbing a Frosted Coffee from Chick-Fil-A with my mom; just the small, special moments. We often forget that we serve a God, not just of the big things, but a God of the small things, too.
“Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights…”
James 1:17
Every means each, all, everything. God’s word tells us that every single good and perfect gift is from Him! I truly believe that God wants us to commune with Him in the little things. Two of my greatest mentors shared with me what they do when something good happens; no matter how big or how small. Each time something good happens, knowing it came from God, they say, “I take that personal! Thank you, Jesus!” This sweet, simple practice will change your relationship with the Father. I can tell you from experience that my communion and intimacy with the Father has grown since taking things “personal.” Why? Because I’m acknowledging His hand at work in my life! Our Jesus is so personal and present in our lives! There are so many blessings from God that we fail to see because we don’t think to acknowledge Him in the small things.
Do you ever feel like God isn’t moving in your life? Do you struggle finding things to thank Him for? Are you in a barren season? I promise that if you begin to take every good and perfect gift “personal,” it will change your outlook! You will see the hand of God upon your life and rejoicing always, praying without ceasing, and giving thanks in everything will become second nature to you (1 Thess. 5:16-18).
We serve such a personal God, friends! A God who is always working to meet our needs and to bless His children, because He knows how to give good gifts. I love how Matthew 7:11 demonstrates this characteristic of God: “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”
I challenge you to ask God to open your eyes to the little things and take the time to take them “personal.”
