Do You Know The Author?

Recently my pastor gave me a book he had written. As I have been reading through his book, it struck me that it was different than any of the other books I had read. Most books I read I don’t personally know the author, but I knew this one. In reading my pastor’s book, I trust what he has written, because I know him; I hear his tone and voice come through the words written on the page, because I know him; if I didn’t understand something in his book, I could ask him to explain it to me, because I know him; I knew for certain it was him who wrote the book, because I know him on a personal level.

It is the same with the Bible. Because I have a personal relationship with The Author, I trust what He has written; He speaks to me through the words on each page; if I don’t understand something, He will explain it to me if I ask Him; I know for certain it was Him who wrote the book.

Maybe the Bible has always seemed like a mystery to you. You feel like an outsider. You just don’t understand. If you feel this way I must ask you, do you know The Author? If you don’t know someone you don’t trust what they say, you aren’t familiar with their voice, and you cannot ask for understanding. Why? Because you don’t have a personal relationship with them.

Knowing The Author makes reading the book a whole new experience. You know and trust that His words are true, He will speak to you through His word, if you don’t understand something, He will explain it to you if you ask, and you can know for certain that it is Him who wrote the book, because you know Him and His voice! The book becomes personal when you know The Author! It becomes a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). This means that God’s word makes your steps clear and shows you which steps to take; it becomes your true guide!

If you don’t know The Author, you can! Romans 10:9-10 says, “if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart the God hath raise him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” If you know The Author, the book becomes more than a story. If you know The Author, the book becomes personal. If you know The Author, you head knowledge becomes heart knowledge. Oh what a joy it is to know The Author!
