In the Waiting

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

-Psalm 27:14

Is there something that you’ve been waiting for? Praying for? I would guess that the answer would be “yes.” If you’re anything like me, waiting is not always an easy thing, especially when it is something that your heart longs for. BUT, I have some encouragement for the both of us. Encouragement from our wonderful Lord that will strengthen our hearts.

1. God’s timing is perfect. It is so easy to want to get ahead of God, but we must remember, His timing is perfect. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” When we go outside of God’s timing, we go outside of His will. Rejecting God’s timing is neglecting to give God the rightful glory that He deserves. God’s timing gives God the glory. Not only is God given glory in His rightful timing, but it is also for our good. Psalm 84:11 says, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” God only has the best in store for His children. Matthew 7:11 says, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”

2. Waiting draws us nearer to God. Often times in the waiting we don’t understand why we’re having to wait, but thats okay because this is when “lean not unto thine own understanding” comes into play (Proverbs 3:5-6). When we’re not leaning on our own understanding and leaning on God, we draw closer and closer to Him because our trust and faith in Him is growing. James 4:8 says, “Draw nigh [near] to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” Child of God, you can be as close to Christ as you want to be! Use this period of waiting to “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). Use this period of time to draw nearer to our wonderful Lord, for He is the only Thing/One who can truly satisfy the longing of your heart.

There is so much to be said for waiting. While not always easy, waiting is so worth it. God’s best is truly worth the wait. Don’t faint friends, God will strengthen your heart. Keep pressing on! God hears your prayers and knows your heart! I have included a sermon by Dr. Charles Stanley below entitled “When God Says Wait” below! I highly recommend you listen to this; it greatly encouraged me and I hope it will you, too!
