These Things Must First Come To Pass

Now more than ever it seems as if people are talking about the end times. “Do you think this is the beginning of the end? Are we living in the end times? Is Jesus getting ready to come back?” These are the recurring questions amongst Christians I hear during this time. But it seems that with these questions, fear is laced within their framework.

In Luke 21, Jesus told the disciples the signs of end times. Luke 21:8 says, “But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass.” I want to hang out on the last part of these verse for a minute; “be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass.” As I came across this section I was comforted knowing that all of the signs–wars, earthquakes, famines, pestilences, fearful sights and great signs–are indicators that the Lord’s return is near and that theses things must first come to pass. In verse 31 of Luke 21, Luke goes on to say that “when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.” Its not fun to experience the hardships of the end time signs, but for the believer, it is exciting to see prophecy unfold and know that our Lord’s return is near.

I am comforted knowing that Jesus has gone to prepare a place for me and if it were not true, He would have said so (John 14:3). The return of Christ to get his bride, the church, is sure. Matthew 24:27, Luke 21:27-28, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, and 1 Corinthians 15:52 are just a few passages that confirm the second coming of Christ. I know these times are hard and uncertain; its so hard being away from loved ones, not being able to worship in God’s house, and feeling distant, but I’m grateful to be able to cast my cares on Jesus, because he cares for me and you (1 Peter 5:7).

Matthew 24: 36 says, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven but my Father only.” While no man knows exactly when Jesus’ return is, we can have peace knowing that each day is a day closer to eternity and that scripture will be fulfilled and is being fulfilled. Jesus is coming back. The King is coming, friend. Are you going with Him?
