Plans, Purposes, and Provisions

“God has a plan for you!” We’ve all heard that one before. Whether it has come from a parent, teacher, friend, or pastor, we have all been told at some point that God has a plan for our lives. But do we truly believe that God has a plan for us?

Until recently, I had always said I believed that God had a plan for me, but I discovered that my heart and head were out of sync. I always knew in my mind that God had an awesome plan for me, but I do not think my heart truly believed it until a few weeks ago. In this season of my life, I am unsure of what the Lord is trying to do; but it is in this time of uncertainty, He has revealed to me His calling on my life. In the midst of uncertainty, I have received a peace and a joy that surpasses all understanding, because I know that my God has my back.

I often find myself asking God for the things that I want, but lately, I have been asking the Lord to help me want what He wants, which is really hard if I’m being real. As I am learning to give up what I want, I am finding such a freedom in Christ. I am learning that a relationship with Him is all I need. I am learning that my joy is found IN CHRIST ALONE. I am learning that God is my defender. I am learning that God knows whats best for me.

As I was reading my Bible the other night, the Lord spoke to me through His word and told me that He’s doing a great work in me and that He has amazing plans for me! God, your plans are far greater than mine! God, in every single thing I go through, You have a purpose for it. God, in every trial and season I walk through, Your provisions shine through. I may not understand what the Lord is doing right now, but I do not have to because He knows best! I cannot possibly lean on my own understanding. God has my back no matter who or what comes against me. God is my protector and at my right hand, so I will not be shaken.

“And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it: lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.” –Acts 5:38-39

There are many things that I do not know, but I do know that God has a plan for me, God has a purpose for me, and God’s provisions are evident. How am I so sure that God really has a plan for me? God’s word tells me these things:

“He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment and preserveth the way of his saints.”–Proverbs 2:7-8

“For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.”–Acts 2:25

“Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.”–Psalm 3:1-4

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”–Proverbs 3:5-6

“For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”–Proverbs 3:26

“I will both lay me own in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. “–Psalm 4:8

“For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.”–Proverbs 5:21

“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. “–Matthew 5:6-9

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”–Jeremiah 29:11-13

God, thy will be done. I thank You that Your plans are greater than mine and that You have an amazing plan laid out for my life! Help me to always seek You, Your plan, Your purpose, and Your provision.
